Tanks and Sky-High Costs: The World's Priciest Military Wonders

11. Raptor F-22

The F-22 Raptor, crafted by Lockheed Martin, entered service in 1997 with a value of approximately $350 million. This single-seat, twin-engine stealth fighter emerged from the Advanced Tactical Fighter program, marking a leap forward in military aviation. Primarily built for air superiority, the F-22 also excels in electronic warfare, ground attack, and intelligence operations. Its stealth capabilities provide a game-changing advantage in combat.

The F-22 Raptor, chiefly developed by Lockheed Martin, also integrates components from Boeing, including the aft fuselage, avionics, and wings. The USAF deems the F-22 a “critical component” of tactical air power. A total of 195 F-22s were built, with 187 remaining operational. Production ceased in 2011, largely due to the rise of the F-35 and evolving strategic priorities.
