4. How to Properly Implement the Onion Sock Routine

If you're drawn to onion socks and eager to try this ritual, preparation matters. Begin with fresh, ideally organic onions. White or yellow varieties are common, though some opt for red onions due to higher antioxidant levels. Wash them well to clear dirt or pesticides, then cut into thin, quarter-inch rounds. Use enough to cover your soles. Pick clean, comfy socks, preferably breathable cotton. Some wear a thin pair beneath the slices for added comfort or to avoid direct skin contact, useful for sensitive skin. Lay the slices on your soles, covering as much as possible, then slip on socks to hold them in place. Wear them overnight for six to eight hours. A slight tingling or warmth is often reported and considered normal. If irritation or discomfort occurs, remove them at once. In the morning, toss the slices and wash your feet well. Some use this a few times weekly for prevention, while others do it nightly during illness or stress.
