Do Bananas Help With Vision?

Carotenoids

Bananas are full of carotenoids, making them an excellent food to consume daily to improve vision as well as prevent eye-related diseases. These compounds are converted to vitamin A and can even prevent cataracts and age-related macular degeneration.
However, not all carotenoids are absorbed in the same way. Therefore, some are only bioavailable in small quantities and must be supplemented with a high-quality source.
Vitamin A

Recent research has shown that eating a banana daily can improve eye health and protect against eye-related diseases. Bananas contain vitamin A essential to keep your eyes healthy.
Bananas not only contain vitamins A and C, but they are also an excellent source of potassium. This mineral helps control blood pressure, prevents strokes and protects the cells that make up the surface of the eye - essential for clear vision.
Magnesium

Magnesium plays a significant role in hundreds of chemical reactions in the human body. It helps maintain optimal muscle and nerve function, regulates heart rate, balances blood sugar levels, and keeps joints healthy.
Magnesium can improve eyesight by reducing the risk of stroke, heart disease and diabetes. But it's critical to get enough from food sources rather than supplements.
Lutein

Bananas are an excellent source of lutein, an antioxidant that can benefit eye health. Lutein helps reduce the risk of cataracts and macular degeneration - two diseases that damage vision - by protecting against photoreceptor damage.
Researchers have shown that lutein helps protect against these eye disorders by absorbing harmful blue and ultraviolet (UV) light, making it a particularly potent antioxidant for the eyes compared to other antioxidants.
