Aircraft from this airfield take off from the beautiful Barra Bays on Cockle Strand. This airport literally takes off and lands right on your Scottish island holiday. However, weather reports and beach conditions must be constantly monitored to ensure planes land safely.
This causes the airport to experience an extensive number of flight cancellations each year, as high winds and a runway covered in salt water are not ideal conditions for landing.
