Although this small strip surrounded by a vast blue sea is beautiful from above, Kansai International Airport has several environmental factors that can be dangerous. From earthquakes to its proximity to sea level, this nerve center can experience many delays when natural disasters occur.
In 2018, this airport had to close for ten days due to flooding caused by Typhoon Jedi. Thousands of travelers and staff were trapped inside the airport compound overnight when an errant ship swept away by the typhoon crashed into the bridge connecting the airport to Osaka.
